John Coleman: Past/Present/Future @ Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West

Images of American Indians infused with the history and mythology of the American West have made John Coleman one of the nation’s most highly regarded contemporary artists. This exhibition, made possible by Frankie and Howard Alper, provides an unparalleled opportunity to examine the career of this pioneering painter, sculptor and influential teacher. It includes creations in charcoal, graphite, oil and bronze, plus some works in progress. Coleman is an award-winning member of the Cowboy Artists of America, a Fellow Member of the National Sculpture Society and a Signature Member of the California Art Club.

5TH ANNUAL GENOCIDE AWARENESS WEEK AT SCC

An impressive lineup of lectures, exhibits and events are on tap for the 5th Annual Genocide Awareness Week: Not on our Watch, April 17-22, at Scottsdale Community College at 9000 E. Chaparral Road in Scottsdale. Several presentations will be held daily starting at 9 am, as well as an evening lecture or event each day at 6:30 pm. The event is free and open to the public.

Mommy & Me Rock Shabbat at Temple Kol Ami @ Temple Kol Ami Early Childhood Center

Join us every Friday morning starting September 16, 2016 for a fun and interactive, parent-child class at Temple Kol Ami’s Early Childhood Center. Mommy & Me Rock Shabbat is a wonderful opportunity for parents and tots to have fun and spend quality time together in a warm Jewish environment.

Mommy & Me Rock Shabbat is open to all moms and their children ages infant to 2 years.

More than just a play group or social event, this teacher-led class offers a wealth of opportunities for moms to connect and share experiences with each other while their children learn and grow.

Typical Mommy & Me activities include:

  • Jewish themes & songs
  • Music & movement
  • Arts & crafts
  • Interactive, developmentally-appropriate Tot Shabbat

Come meet other moms while kids learn about group dynamics and prepare for pre-school.

Mommy & Me classes are just $5 per class (or $35 for a 10 class pass) for Temple Kol Ami members.

Non-members pay $10 per class (or $75 for a 10 class pass).

About the Teacher: Highly-experienced educator Rachel Schneider (our Rabbi’s wife!) leads Mommy & Me each week. Rachel has been teaching for nearly 20 years. She has taught preschool through 12th grade, most recently at Pardes in Scottsdale. She holds two master’s degrees: one from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and one from the University of Southern California. Rachel and her husband, Rabbi Jeremy Schneider, have four children ages 8, 6, 2, and 4 months old.

What is the Great Cloth Diaper Change?

A worldwide event with a goal to increase awareness of modern reusable cloth diapers. 2017 is the 7th annual event during which groups of cloth diapering parents come together to try to set a world record for the number of cloth diapers changed at one time. This mass change will take place on April 22 at 11:00 a.m. local time.

After the big change, stick around for information and entertainment as we continue the fun with an Earth Day celebration!
