Publishers’ Message

“What binds us together is far more significant than what divides us.”

This familiar expression is probably more relevant today than ever. And with the launch of our first issue of Arizona Jewish Life, those words truly resonate. It has been a journey to learn about the history of Jewish Arizona as well as the reality of Jewish life here today. After all is said and done, even with all of our differences, the Jewish people—whether in Arizona, Oregon or Israel—are intricately connected spiritually, physically and emotionally.

From the outset, we were keenly aware that in order for this new venture to succeed here, we would need to work as a team, not just as the Arizona Jewish Life team but in partnership with the Arizona Jewish community. We have loved the ideas, “constructive criticism” and energy this interaction has brought to our lives and, in turn, to the magazine.

One of the biggest challenges we faced was deciding on the cover subject for this inaugural issue. We became aware of some concerns that the Jewish community was spread out, and many were not involved, especially in the younger generations. So we decided to find out who are the young leaders of today, what they are doing, who inspired them and how they might inspire others. Well, we found them. And, to our relief, they are everywhere. In fact, there are too many to include in one issue, so we have decided to highlight young leaders in future issues as well.

Arizona Jewish Life is, and will remain, a work in progress. And as we highlight the vitality, diversity, challenges and accomplishments of this incredible community, we look forward to growing with you and becoming a dynamic part of your lives for years to come.

On behalf of everyone at Arizona Jewish Life, we want to thank you for your support and guidance. And, on a personal note, we would like to thank our most enthusiastic supporters, our families and friends, for their constant encouragement. Gratitude does not even begin to cover it.

We wish you and yours a healthy, happy and sweet New Year.

Shana Tova U’Metukah.
