Joining a growing international trend, the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality recently opened Tel & Take, Israel’s first library of things. Tel Aviv residents can borrow stuff like drills, picnic tables, camping equipment or pet carriers for a contribution of 10 NIS (less than $3).
The list of objects in the library was compiled in collaboration with the residents of Florentin, the hipster neighborhood that houses the Tel & Take pilot project. If found successful, this innovative sharing economy tool will be replicated in other neighborhoods of the city. The library of things concept is geared towards making life more affordable and community-centered. By creating access to items that are expensive to own and rarely used, it responds to some of the main challenges for urban life: saving space in small apartments and lowering the cost of living.
