Beginning Hand Drumming @ Tucson Jewish Community Center
Oct 10 @ 10:00 am – 11:30 am

First of all, hand drumming is good for you, just ask any occupational therapist.  It’s also a great way to be social, and it’s fun, and challenging.  In this class, we will be learning how to play west african and caribbean rhythms,  In order to play these rhythms, we will also have to learn the three basic sounds that a hand drum makes:  open tone, slap, and bass tone.  Primarily, we will be playing conga drums, as well as bell, shekere, low drums, blocks and claves.  Playing together is the real magic, of course…..and we will do a lot of that.

$30 rental fee for conga drum due on the first day of class.  Student will have that drum for the duration of the class.

Intermediate Guitar: Playing Lead and Rhythm Guitar Up the Neck @ Tucson Jewish Community Center
Oct 10 @ 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Have you hit a wall in your playing?  Trapped in the first 3 frets of the guitar?  This class will break you out of that, and have you playing lead and rhythm guitar all over the neck.  Class will be blues heavy, with it being understood that jazz, rock and country can be approached in much the same way.  Movable chords, pentatonic scales and the ability to use them are still some of the most important tools in a guitar player’s tool case.

Native Gardens @ Herberger Theater Center
Oct 10 @ 7:30 pm

An absolutely hilarious new comedy that’s anything but neighborly! High-powered lawyer Pablo and wife Tania, a doctoral candidate, are working toward the American dream. They move into a well-to-do, mostly white neighborhood in our nation’s capital. A delicate disagreement over a long-standing fence line soon spirals into an all-out, laugh-out-loud comic border dispute, exploring what is an otherwise hot-button issue through a refreshing comedic lens.

Fun Home @ Phoenix Theatre

Five-time Tony Award® winner and winner of Best Musical, Fun Home is Alison Bechdel’s coming-of-age journey of self-discovery. They lead us through her dysfunctional childhood, her coming-out, and her father’s death, shortly after his own coming-out. A story of reflection, bittersweet memories, and the moments of pure joy that shine through the darkness, Fun Home is a one-of-a-kind musical experience.
