The Desert Caucus, Inc. is a bipartisan, single issue Jewish political action committee supporting federal congressional candidates outside of Arizona who support a strong U.S. Israel relationship. Members pay dues and are entitled to attend between seven and nine events September through May/early June. There is no further solicitation of funds.

Shalom in Every Home: Nourishing Love & Happiness–Mindfulness Techniques & Relationship Health @ Jewish Community Center

Incorporating the practice of mindfulness into our lives has a positive impact on our individual well-being. This discussion will focus on the use of mindfulness in couples counseling and specific skills that increase gratitude and compassion in interpersonal relationships. Shari Goettel, LCSW, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in private practice in Tucson. As a trainer and presenter, Shari draws from her background in Imago Relationship Therapy and Encounter-Centered Couples Therapy, as well her mentors and Buddhist psychology. Shari creates a rich learning space for people to explore new ideas, beliefs and habits.

This is one of two April lectures in the Shalom in Every Home Healthy Family Lecture Series sponsored by Jewish Family & Children’s Services of Southern Arizona and the LEAH program, which is funded by the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona.

Please join us in honoring the importance of customs of courtship, customs and wedding ceremonies.

13 Wedding Gowns, Dresses, and Suits from wedding ceremonies in Phoenix, and various other locations feature Jewish customs from Ashkenazic and Sephardic, Orthodox, Conservative, Reform and Secular weddings.  Dating back to 1912 and brought forward to today, and see the objects and artifacts that demonstrate Jewish ritual, custom, tradition, and law which are on view with explanations, observations, and commentary, from a 1928 Ketubah to a modern Chuppah. Compare them with another occupant of this historic building, a Chinese Baptist Church, who have loaned the exhibit a complete Chinese wedding party’s costumes and customs.

See film clips from some of the most noteworthy Hollywood Jewish wedding scenes which are available for viewing on tablets in the gallery. See tradition blend with current wedding rituals as the important human need for coupling is celebrated.

The Arizona Jewish Historical Society’s building is almost 100 years old, built in 1921, this historic Phoenix landmark served as Phoenix, Arizona’s first synagogue and later became a Chinese-speaking and then Spanish-speaking Baptist church.  Purchased by the Arizona Jewish Historical Society in 2002 and restored in 2008-2010, the center now serves as a museum and event venue open to people of all faiths.   Exhibitions and programs educate the public about Jewish heritage as well as the diverse history of Arizona.  The center is a Phoenix Point of Pride and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Spring Concert

Beth Ami Temple is holding a Spring Concert on April 30 from 3-5 pm at 3535 E. Lincoln Dr. in Paradise Valley. Admission is $25 per person and includes light refreshments. The featured artist is Phoenix Symphony violinist Lan Qiu and his talented family of musicians.
