Music with a Voice: A Concert of Reclamation @ Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts

In this community concert, MusicaNova celebrates three composers, Schreker, Hindemith and Mendelssohn, whose works were banned by the Nazis as part of the suppression of what they considered “degenerate, Jewish art.”  Music with a Voice honors the improbable survivor of these impactful voices and reclaims their significance for today.

New Year, new group fitness options for our active adults! Let’s get physical! Enjoy energizing exercise for the body and the brain. The goal for class participants is to increase the heart rate while using a variety of techniques to engage the mind.  This class will take place mostly standing with an option for seated.

Recommended for ages 55 + but all ages welcome!

Eva: A-7063 – An Auschwitz survivor’s fight to heal the world @ Martin Pear JCC in the Valley of the Sun

As a 10-year-old “Mengele Twin,” Eva Kor suffered some of the worst of the Holocaust. At 50, she launched the biggest manhunt in history. In her 80s, she circled the globe to promote the lesson her journey taught: Healing through forgiveness. Narrated by Hollywood icon Ed Asner, “Eva: A-7063” tells the full, astonishing story of this historic figure for the first time, tracking her from Auschwitz to Israel to the United States – even into the U.S. Capitol for her jaw-dropping arrest – and ultimately to her courageous return to the Nazi death camp. Eva’s son will be in attendance to introduce and discuss the filmA film by Ted Green, Mika Brown and WFYI Public Media.

Scottsdale Musical Theater Company is honored to celebrate Stephen Sondheim’s 90th birthday with this fully-staged concert version of Sweeney Todd. Winner of seven Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book and Best Original Score, and made popular with the film version starring Johnny Depp, Sweeney Todd is probably the most impressive and iconic work by Stephen Sondheim.

Now in its 10th year, SMTC prides itself on presenting fully-staged concert versions of famous Broadway musicals. All of our shows feature the best talent from around the valley and a full live 20+ piece orchestra so that these shows can be heard and appreciated by audiences of all ages.
