Join us to celebrate this milestone 75th anniversary as we honor the pioneer families and past board presidents of JFCS of Southern Arizona whose individual and collective vision created and sustained this valuable counseling and community services resource for the greater Tucson and Southern Arizona community.
We will reflect back on the founding and evolution of JFCS and its impact on and in the community guided by Jewish traditions of the world (tikkun olam) with loving kindness (chesed) through just and charitable deeds (tzedakah).
Award-winning actress and devoted social activist Marlee Matlin’s will be the keynote speaker for the 75th Anniversary Celebration of Caring. She will speak to the theme of “Live Generously: Healing the World, One Person at a Time” that reflects what Jewish Family and Children’s Services of Southern Arizona has been doing for 75 years.
Ms. Matlin’s Hollywood career skyrocketed following her debut performance in Children of a Lesser God. At 21, she became the youngest recipient of the Best Actress Oscar and only one of four actresses to receive the honor for their film debut. In addition to the Oscar, she received the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama.
Though Matlin lost her hearing when she was 18 months old, she never let her challenges dictate her future or deter her dreams. In 2007, she starred on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. In 2011, as a finalist on NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice, she raised a record $1 Million dollars in one day for charity.
Matlin guest stars on the Peabody Award-winning ABC Family series Switched at Birth. In the fall of 2015, Marlee made another first with her Broadway debut in the revival of Spring Awakening.
It will be a memorable evening for all!
Phoenix, February 11, 2016 — At our upcoming gala “To Life, L’Chaim,” we are proud to honor Joan and Morton Sitver for their many years of dedicated support of Beth El and the greater Jewish community. Our gala dinner and dance will take place on Sunday, April 10, at 5:30pm at Beth El Congregation.
