Introduction to Portrait Painting

Would you like to paint portraits of your family, or sketch strangers while you travel? Discover the joy of portraiture and dispel the myth that it is harder than other subjects. You will learn: proportions, how to render features, how to create soft, believable hair, improve your drawing skills, how to mix skin tones, and overall painting skills. Gain the confidence to paint and draw any person you choose!

Tiles with Style

Make colorful mosaic tiles of varied shapes and sizes, and use them to fill a wall niche, to make wall decorations or a sculptural tile for your garden, or to cover a table or backsplash. Learn techniques for writing on tiles with fluid glazing or carving. No previous clay experience necessary, all skill levels welcome. Six, two-hour sessions with Instructor Gerrie Young.

Aleinu, a program of Jewish Family & Children’s Service, is hosting Overcoming Disabilities at Any Age, a workshop discussing the levels of care and resources available throughout the aging process. The workshop will be held on October 16 from 5:30 -8:30 pm at the East Valley Jewish Community Center, 908 N. Alma School Road, Chandler.
The workshop, a collaboration with Gesher Disability Resources and the East Valley Jewish Community, with support from the Jewish Community Foundation, is $18 per person and is open to the general public.
Attendees will hear presentations from Paige Raetz, PhD, BCBA; Diana Davis-Wilson, DBH, LBA, BCBA; and Michael Beyo, Rabbi and CEO of the East Valley JCC. Topics include navigating the healthcare system, understanding cognitive delays and identifying the most appropriate resources.
“JFCS Aleinu presents educational workshops on a wide variety of topics of importance to today’s families,” said Jessica Bozek, Aleinu coordinator. “We are pleased to bring these recognized speakers together in one place to discuss the importance of adjusting to a disability.”
