Lag B’Omer is the 33rd Day in the Counting of the Omer, the days between Passover and Shavuot, which are considered somber, mourning days. On Lag B’Omer however, Jews are allowed to get married and to celebrate. It’s also a day many 3 years old boys will receive their first hair cuts. Some customs include picnics and bon fires.

Cantor Janece Cohen of Congregation Or Chadash in Tucson is receiving a Doctorate of Sacred Music, Honoris Causa, from Hebrew Union College on May 9 at Music of the Night, a dinner dance being held in her honor. Bestowed in recognition of her 25 years of service as a congregational cantor, the award is a tribute to the contributions Janece has made as cantor at Or Chadash as well as throughout the Tucson Jewish community.
Music of the Night is being held at Skyline Country Club, 5200 E St. Andrews Dr. in Tucson, beginning at 6 pm with a cocktail hour and a classical guitarist, followed at 7 pm with dinner, tributes, a silent auction and music by a jazz trio.
