Weaving actual video interviews with the legendary composer himself, Sondheim on Sondheim provides a fresh perspective into Stephen Sondheim’s illustrious career from his biggest hits to his earlier works and earlier versions of songs from his famous musicals. The cast of 8 will present some of Sondheim’s best – and obscure – songs. This is the first time this show – first produced on Broadway in 2010 – has ever been presented in Arizona. This show is a must for any fan of musical theatre – and the creation of art.

This limited engagement will take place October 29 – 31st at Tempe Center for the Arts, 700 W. Rio Salado Parkway, Tempe, AZ 85281. Regular tickets are $32 – $42 and may be ordered at (602) 909-4215 or through the SMTC website www.ScottsdaleMusicalTheater.com.

The performance schedule is Thursday Oct 29 @ 7:30PM, Friday Oct 30 @ 7:30PM and Saturday, Oct 31 @ 2:00PM.

The 3rd Annual Desert Gathering Jewish Music Fest — the Valley’s preeminent celebration of Jewish music, culture and community — will take place Sunday, November 1 from 2-6 pm at Steele Indian School Park in Phoenix.

Through the spiritual power of music, the DGJMF seeks to create a stronger sense of Jewish identity, connection to community and pride in the Valley’s Jewish population’s shared culture and heritage.

The DGJMF welcomes the entire Phoenix community regardless of religion to attend this year’s FREE festival, where a diverse lineup of artists including Oakland-based folk singer Mikey Pauker, Los Angeles-based producer/DJ Diwon, Phoenix-based Orthodox spoken word/hiphop artist Ari Lesser, local singer/songwriter and Temple Solel cantorial soloist Todd Herzog, local super group Yehudie & the Gefilte Fish and a choir comprised of third and fourth grade students backed by various Valley clergy.

Family-friendly activities at the event will include arts and crafts, face painting, raffles, food vendors and trucks and artisans, Israeli dancers and storytime from PJ Library.

“High Tech Meets the Holocaust”

Speaker:  Stephanie Silverman Houser.  Writer and producer, Ms. Houser based a 7-minute film Becoming Henry on the book My Journey Through the Nazi Holocaust by Henry Oertelt.  We will see Ms. Houser’s film and hear her story of how a boat trip around the world led to this project.
