Behind the Lens: Photographers of the American West, Featuring Mia Larocque @ Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West

Rodeo photographer Mia Larocque shoots the action at the Tucson, Scottsdale, Payson (Gary Hardt Memorial) and Prescott PRCA rodeos, as well as the Arizona Cowpuncher’s Reunion Rodeo in Williams. Her fine art photography includes ranch and horse portraitures, and travel, scenic and cultural images. Mia reveals what it’s like to capture not only the emotion of rodeo, but the life outside the ring, framing rodeo as a way of life, not simply a sport.

In this program, she discusses her photographic career portraying the “true athletes of rodeo,” and her upbringing as a photographer by her mother, celebrated rodeo photographer Louise L. Serpa.
