Parkinson’s PWR!Circuit 3 at the J @ Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center

Dr. Richard Carmona – “The Challenge of Brain Health in War and Peace” @ Jewish Community Center

Richard H. Carmona, M.D., M.P.H., FACS, 17th Surgeon General of the United States, Chief of Health Innovations at Canyon Ranch, and Distinguished Professor at the University of Arizona will be speaking on “The Challenge of Brain Health in War and Peace,” as part of the 2017 Mel Sherman Institute on Mental Health lectures series hosted by JFCS of Southern Arizona.

A decorated combat veteran and police officer, trauma surgeon, professor of medicine, and public health advocate, Dr. Carmona will discuss the responsibility of caring for our military service members with war-related physical and psychological brain injuries as well as the challenges of dementia in an aging population.

Jewish National Fund (JNF) will host its JNFuture Fall Fest on Thursday, November 16, 2017 beginning at 6:30 pm on the rooftop of the Liv North Scottsdale (15509 North Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85234).
The event is being held for current JNFuture members and young professionals new to Jewish National Fund to enable them to meet the JNFuture Phoenix Board, enjoy food and drinks, showcase the success of JNF’s work in Israel, and to share details about upcoming JNF trips and missions to Israel. The evening will also provide participants with information and opportunities on how to get involved with Jewish National Fund’s work for the land and people of Israel. In addition, there will be a raffle for JNFuture members, offering the chance to win two tickets to Shabbat in the Desert.

Mommy & Me Rock Shabbat at Temple Kol Ami @ Temple Kol Ami Early Childhood Center

Join us every Friday morning for a fun and interactive, parent-child class at Temple Kol Ami’s Early Childhood Center. Mommy & Me Rock Shabbat is a wonderful opportunity for parents and tots to have fun and spend quality time together in a warm Jewish environment.

Mommy & Me Rock Shabbat is open to all moms and their children ages infant to 2 years.

More than just a play group or social event, this teacher-led class offers a wealth of opportunities for moms to connect and share experiences with each other while their children learn and grow.

Typical Mommy & Me activities include:

  • Jewish themes & songs
  • Music & movement
  • Arts & crafts
  • Interactive, developmentally-appropriate Tot Shabbat

Come meet other moms while kids learn about group dynamics and prepare for pre-school.

Mommy & Me classes are just $5 per class (or $35 for a 10 class pass) for Temple Kol Ami members.

Non-members pay $10 per class (or $75 for a 10 class pass).

About the Teacher: Highly-experienced educator Rachel Schneider (our Rabbi’s wife!) leads Mommy & Me each week. Rachel has been teaching for nearly 20 years. She has taught preschool through 12th grade, most recently at Pardes in Scottsdale. She holds two master’s degrees: one from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and one from the University of Southern California. Rachel and her husband, Rabbi Jeremy Schneider, have four children ages 8, 6, 2, and 4 months old.

Fall Butterfly Exhibit @ Desert Botanical Garden

Hidden in the Hills Studio Tour
