Author talk: One Moroccan Woman @ Chapel Center
Mar 6 @ 3:00 pm

Friends of Israel SLJC and the EVJCC

presents

Acclaimed author Yamit Armbrister

On March 6, 2016 at 3:00PM, The Friends of Israel SLJC and the East Valley JCC will present Yamit Armbrister, the author of A Moroccan Woman, From Egypt to Caanen and Daughter of Ouzel. A Moroccan Women was recently selected by the Israeli Department of Education to the list of most recommended books for all High School students.

Yamit graduated with a BA in Social Sciences from Bar Ilan University in Israel and holds an MBA from Walden University in Maryland.

One Moroccan Woman, inspired by actual events in 1951, is the story of Tamar Ben Zaken who is forced, due to strive between Moroccan Jews and Muslims, to emigrate to Israel, under very challenging circumstances.

One reviewer notes “This is an intimate story about a young girl and about the decisions she had to make through the turmoil of her life. You, the reader, go along with her step by step, feeling close and affectionate towards her. This is enjoyable and an important read.”

Yamit will briefly review the Moroccan situation from which Tamar fled and describe the challenges she and her family faced arriving in Israel in the early 1950s. She will also compare Tamar’s experience to those of Jews making Aliyah in more recent times. . She will share stories that have been passed down within the family that are beyond the scope of the book.

Please join us to hear Yamit Armbrister, on March 6, 2015, at 3:00 PM at the Chapel Center at 9240 E Sun Lakes Blvd N, 85248. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. There will be no solicitations.
