Children’s Museum of Phoenix Reopens

The Children’s Museum of Phoenix will reopen on Friday, November 20th with Adventure Play, providing over 20,000 square feet of insanely creative, open-ended, imaginative play experiences for children and their families – all outdoors.

Encompassing the entire front yard along 7th Street as well as over 15,000 square feet of new space created in the Museum’s north parking lot, Adventure Play gives children the opportunity to do what they do best – learn through play and movement. Innovative in its design and repurposing of materials, the whimsical learning environment invites active exploration, robust imaginative play, physical activity requiring both fine and gross motor skills, and thought-provoking discoveries that lead to meaningful learning.

The centerpiece of Adventure Play is the amazing Colossal Castle built entirely with straw bales along with a Straw Maze. A total of 400 bales of straw were used to create the castle and maze.

In addition, Adventure Play includes:

The Workshop – complete with hammers, nails, wrenches and other tools to build with.

Building Play – an area that includes tires, crates and other items to climb over, on, and through.

Cornville – sensory play where children can play in 1 ton of corn kernels.

Rock Painting – 10 tons of rocks for kids to paint and spread happiness in the community. Children and adults will be able to paint a rock to take home and/or to leave somewhere in the community for others to find.

Painting “Alfa” – as in Alfa Romeo. Much like painting the Robot in the Art Studio, this space invites kids to paint a classic Alfa Romeo.

Explore-a-Truck – Kids are invited to explore a fire truck and a mail truck, up close and personal, inside and out.

Visitors will also be able to plant, water and harvest crops in The Children’s Garden; scoop sift and measure in the Mud Kitchen; build with pine cones, logs, rocks, sticks, and good old fashion dirt in Nature Nook;  jump rope and hula hoop in Retro Recess; ride a trike or balance bike in TMX (Tike Motocross); play in the Sand Pit; leap up, down and over The Bases; climb over, under and through The Snake; and have a blast  Sock Skating which returns to the Museum at the end of the month.
