On Jan. 8, 2011, a gunman killed 6 people and wounded 13 others, including U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, at a Safeway grocery store outside of Tucson. People of all ages had gathered to meet Gabby at an event she called, “Congress on Your Corner.”

The New York Times published an opinion piece by Gabby, “10 Years Ago, a Gunman Tried to Silence Me,” on Jan. 8, 2021, the 10th anniversary of the shooting.

USA Today also ran an exclusive piece, “10 years after the shooting, Gabby Giffords on the need to ‘move ahead’.
