The Martin Pear JCC on the Ina Levine Jewish Community Campus (“The J”) announces a month-long schedule of programming in support of Breast Cancer Awareness as we honor friends and family that are fighting, have survived, or lost a loved one to breast cancer. The community can join in-person or online for a variety of uplifting and informative activities designed to promote (safe and socially distanced) unity while providing the knowledge needed to reduce risk and advance early detection and treatment.
Programming starts on Thursday, October 15 at 5:30 pm when Abrazo Health will be at the Martin Pear JCC for a Pretty in Pink Happy Hour for National Mammography Day. Dr. Linda Greer and Dr. Lise Walker, experts at Abrazo Health, will discuss breast imaging and the risks and genetic factors that contribute to breast cancer. “Women should be proactive about knowing their breast density and risk assessment value, and no matter their schedule, make time to get screened,” says Dr. Linda Greer, a breast imaging specialist at Abrazo Health. “If you think you may be at risk, please talk to your doctor about recommendations for screenings and how often you should get them.” This program is in partnership with Abrazo Health, JFQ Lending and the Minkoff Center for Jewish Genetics. Attendees will enjoy drinks and appetizers. Learn more and register at vosjcc.org/breastcancerhappyhour.
On Sunday, October 18 at 11:30 am, Teri Friedland, the creator of PINK RIBBON 360 will be at the Martin Pear JCC for a holistic fitness class. The month of programming will conclude on Wednesday, October 28 at 7:00 pm with a night of fun and fundraising while honoring survivors during Bingo for Breast Cancer. 10% of proceeds will go to the Gilda Radner inspired organization, Cancer Support Community, in Arizona. Bingo play will be coupled with actress, comedian, and two-time cancer survivor Aniela McGuinness zooming in to discuss how she has used her experience to impact the world with an honest, inspiring and refreshing perspective on survivorship. This program is sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix and PINK RIBBON 360. Register at vosjcc.org/bingoforbreastcancer.
