Jewish-Jazz Connection and the Great American Songbook: A Musical Review Concert

A musical review of the Jewish-Jazz Connection and the Great American Songbook from the swinging jazz that brought America to its feet in dancehalls across the U.S. in the 1930 and 40s, to the Brazilian bossa nova craze that swept the nation in the 1950s and 60s. Benny Goodman, the son of Jewish immigrants from Poland and Lithuania, led the first racially integrated band, and concert to Carnegie Hall in 1938. George Gershwin’s songbook is a study in itself, making up a huge body of work within the Great American Songbook. Stan Getz (originally born Stanley Gayetzky) was a child prodigy and helped to shepherd Brazilian jazz into the U.S. Robin Bessier’s Jazz Trio explores this rich tapestry in a concert that will both entertain and educate.
