Tikkun Leil Shavuot: A Guide to the Evening of Shavuot @ Congregation Anshei Israel

Annual program to observe the celebration of the anniversary of the day Moses received the Ten Commandments from God. Includes service, dairy dinner, two study sessions, dessert and the reading of the Book of Ruth.

Ma’ariv/Shavuot Service 8:00pm; dairy dinner 8:15pm
Study Session 1 at 8:45pm: Rabbi Robert Eisen will present “Megillat Ruth: The Character of the Characters”
Study Session 2 at 9:40pm: Rabbi Ruven Barkan will present “Is the Torah True? What Happened at Sinai?”
Dessert 10:30pm; Reading of the Book of Ruth 11:00pm

$8 per person to attend dinner; no charge for service, study sessions & dessert.

This interactive and upbeat Shabbat celebration for families incorporates fun-spirited melodies and family-themed activities. We’ll share Shabbat dinner, followed by Open Lounge in the Youth Center with games and fun. Come celebrate Shabbat with ruach (spirit) and your congregational family!  Dinner $25 per family (two adults & up to 4 children) and/or adults (13+) $10 per person. RSVP needed by June 14.

Enjoy a traditional Shabbat dinner with family and friends at CAI (with linens, china plates and silverware!). Served family-style: roast chicken (vegetarian option upon request), vegetables, sweet kugel, salad and dessert. (Seating will be assigned.) NEW! Cong. Anshei Israel “Rhythm and Ruach” Family Shabbat Service and Dinner @ Congregation Anshei Israel

Help us create a new song! As we transition into the “Rhythm of Shabbat,” we will begin our service with a “Drum Circle” – we supply the instruments, you bring the rhythm! Percussion instruments will be available for all who wish to participate. Then we’ll share Shabbat dinner, followed by Open Lounge in the Youth Center with games and fun. Come celebrate Shabbat with ruach (spirit) and your congregational family!  Dinner $25 per family (two adults & up to 4 children) and/or adults (13+) $10 per person. RSVP needed by Aug. 15.

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee & Temple Kol Ami cordially invite you to Israel in the Media: Beyond the Headlines featuring author and journalist Matti Friedman.

Matti Friedman is the author of Pumpkinflowers: A Soldier’s Story, a war memoir of the often forgotten events that took place in the 1990s at the Pumpkin, a small military outpost in Lebanon. His first book, The Aleppo Codex, won the 2014 Sami Rohr Prize, the American Library Association’s Sophia Brody Medal, the Canadian Jewish Book Award and other honors. It was published in Israel, Australia, Holland, France, Germany, the Czech Republic, Russia and South Korea.

Friedman’s reporting has taken him from Israel to Lebanon, Morocco, Moscow and the Caucasus, and his writing has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post and elsewhere. He is a former Associated Press correspondent and a regular contributor to Tablet Magazine. Two essays he wrote about media coverage of Israel after the 2014 Gaza War, for Tablet and The Atlantic, triggered intense discussion and have been shared together on Facebook more than 100,000 times. He was born in Toronto and lives in Jerusalem.
