Debra Grobmeier named Burch & Cracchiolo Star Teacher

The law firm of Burch & Cracchiolo, P.A. is proud to announce Debra Grobmeier of Horizon High School in Phoenix as the September 2020 recipient of the “B&C Star Teacher Award.”  Debra is a freshman math teacher who has been teaching for 23 years. She was awarded a check for $500 to use for classroom PPE supplies and a certificate of recognition.

Debra was presented the award by B&C partner Casey Blais via Zoom.

Debra was nominated by long-time friend and parent of former students, Susan Hall of Susan Hall Realtors. In her nomination she wrote:

“Her students would tell you she is amazing. She received letters years later thanking her. Some apologizing for their behavior (high schoolers are not easy) and that because of her they became teachers. She spends every lunch hour tutoring students in her classroom. She cares deeply for each child and uses her money every year to buys books and paper and pens – and always has a candy jar or Nutri-Grain bar available.

I was excited about this because not often are teachers appreciated. The times she goes home and is worried about a child who has a sick sibling or ill parent, or even a divorce happening and hopes she can say the right words and still get that kid to learn the math concept by using whatever it takes to pass. I laugh when she says the kids think they will never use math – and she puts up a football field on her whiteboard. She talks about the 50-yard line and has the class move back and forth from the positive to negative side –  and she watches the lightbulb go on.

She loves math and gets her students to see that they can succeed. She deserves this more than I can say.”

A Valley teacher is chosen each month to receive $500 through a nominating process on the firm’s website bcattorneys.com. Nominations will be accepted from students, former students and parents who wish to honor and thank a teacher who has had a great impact on their life. Many teachers spend their own money to augment the costs of classroom supplies, field trips and other non-covered costs that arise throughout the school year. B&C hopes to alleviate that burden for one deserving teacher each month.

Nominations are open to all teachers in K-12 who teach in Maricopa County. Winners will be notified and then presented a check at their school by a member of Burch & Cracchiolo. Photos and/or video will be taken to post on the firm website and social media.  To nominate go to bcattorneys.com,click on the “Nominate a Star Teacher” button and tell us why you think your teacher deserves the B&C Star Teacher Award.

Congratulations (or should I say Mazel Tov) Debra!! As I only knew you as a Bar/Bat Mitzvah entertainer personified (I might add), I never thought about the fact that you worked every weekend and then worked a full week with teenagers and math! What a combination!!! God Bless You for all you’ve done for those students. Esther Zack (Arizona Video Productions)
