Brandeis University Professor to speak on “The Shifting Alliances in The Middle East and their Effect on Israel”
Dr. Reuven Kimelman, professor of Near Eastern and Judaic Studies at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA will discuss how the growing Sunni Shiite divide has changed Israel’s relationship with other countries in the region. The Sunni countries (Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Morocco and even Saudi Arabia) threatened by Iran and its Shiite allies are establishing closer political and military ties with Israel. What does this mean for the prospects of future peace in the Middle East? What is the impact of President Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran?
Professor Kimelman will speak on Monday June 8th from 7 PM – 9 PM at the Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center, 12701 N Scottsdale Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85254. Admission is free.
The evening is being sponsored by Brandeis National Committee Phoenix Chapter in conjunction with the Brandeis Alumni Association and the JCC.
