The Magic of Michael Kors

Southwest fashion dips into the magic of the 2013 collection from designer Michael Kors and gets a sneak peek at what spring and summer have to offer.

“Spring clothes arrive, crazily enough, at the end of January and February, when in many cities around the world it’s gray, dreary and kind of gross,” Kors says. “The biggest thing I want to talk about, and what does for me, is optimism. These clothes for spring have a big-city polish and sophistication to them.”

Kors says his influences come from spending time on the West Coast, which provides for a much sunnier disposition than the winters of New York City. His style is well suited to athletic figures, as Kors’ fashions are famous for being formfitting — perfect for showing off toned bodies. While black is a staple, there are also black-and-white prints, plus colors that pop and graphics such as stripes and patterns. Embellishments of polished gold, such as a pair of edgy, rose-colored glasses, add the appropriate finishing touches.

From my perspective, the collection displays the “All-American” themes of youth, vitality and beauty, and boasts vivid hues ideal for settings poolside or oceanside and other aquatic fun.
Wear the collection with sleek, slicked-back hair, and don’t be afraid to show lots of leg, making for an overall sophisticated and sexy, yet casual, uptown look next spring.
