Actress, producer, activist and author Noa Tishby will emcee the upcoming American Associates Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (AABGU) virtual event, “Celebrating the Remarkable,” which takes place on April 25.

“I am delighted to be hosting ‘Celebrating the Remarkable’ for American Associates, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. AABGU’s valuable work in helping develop Israel’s Negev region is nothing short of remarkable. On a personal level, the fact that AABGU transcends politics as an organization that sheds a positive light on Israel is especially significant to me,” remarks Noa Tishby, founder of the nonprofit “Act for Israel,” Israel’s first online advocacy organization. “I must also say how exciting it is to be honoring Dr. Ruth, a remarkable pioneer in her field.”

Legendary sex therapist and author Dr. Ruth will be receiving her first and only honorary doctorate from an Israeli university, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, during the event.

“The past year has been challenging for so many of us; I’m grateful for virtual events like ‘Celebrating the Remarkable’ which provide the kind of uplifting, inspirational experience we are all longing for these days,” adds Tishby.

“We are absolutely thrilled that Noa Tishby will be hosting this special occasion, which I’m sure will be the biggest and most exciting event that AABGU has ever held,” says Doug Seserman, chief executive officer of American Associates, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. “Known as Israel’s unofficial ambassador in the United States, having Noa as our emcee couldn’t be more perfect, considering that she’s a trailblazing, accomplished Israeli-American whose passionate advocacy when it comes to Israel leads to real, positive change.”

Noa Tishby was born and raised in Tel Aviv and served two and a half years in the Israeli army before she landed a starring role on the nation’s highest-rated primetime drama “Ramat Aviv Gimmel.” She became a household name, appearing in numerous TV shows, films, theater productions, and national fashion campaigns, before she moved to Los Angeles, where she sold the Israeli TV show “In Treatment” to HBO, making history as the first Israeli television show to become an American series. She co-produced over 150 episodes, which earned a Peabody Award and twelve Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. A passionate political activist, Tishby founded the nonprofit “Act for Israel,” Israel’s first online advocacy organization, and has become widely known as Israel’s unofficial ambassador. She is the author of the newly released book, Israel: A Simple Guide to the Most Misunderstood Country on Earth.

Celebrating the Remarkable event will also pay tribute to Toni Young, AABGU past president, for her remarkable leadership and vision and Philip Gomperts, newly retired director of AABGU’s Southwest Region, for his extraordinary fundraising achievements on behalf of AABGU, BGU and the State of Israel. Dr. Ruth’s honorary doctorate will be bestowed by Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) President Prof. Daniel Chamovitz and Rector Prof. Chaim Haimes.

“Celebrating the Remarkable,” will take place on Sunday, April 25, 2021, at 1 pm Eastern Standard Time. Visit aabgu.org/events/celebrating-the-remarkable to register.
